Better Than Banana

11/21/2018

A banana provides a ton of potassium. And that’s a good thing, because almost every body part needs it, from your heart and kidneys to your muscles and nerves. It even plays a role in basic cell function. But bananas aren’t the only game in town. Lots of foods can provide your body with this essential mineral. Avocado, potato, watermelon and lima beans all have more potassium than a banana.

Purple Power

11/20/2018

In fruits and vegetables, purple is often a sign of nutrients called anthocyanins. Your body doesn't need them to work, but they do help protect your cells from damage that can lead to illness and disease. And that's on top of any other health benefits you'll get from eating these foods.  When thinking purple, think plums, grapes, beets, as well as, purple carrots, potatoes and cabbage.

Unhealthy Screen Time

11/16/2018

Limit yourself to 2 hours a day that's not work- or school-related. And yes, that includes your smartphone. Too much time glued to that device has led to a new condition called "text neck" that can cause back, neck, and shoulder pain. Screens in the bedroom can mess with your sleep. Screens during the day can make you less active and more distracted.

No Time To Exercise?

11/7/2018

You want to lose 10 lbs, but you don't have time to exercise. Well, you know that's not true.  You know how we spend our time depends on our priorities and time management.  If you are schedule driven, actually schedule time to exercise...on your calendar.  Avoid, limit or eliminate your time on social media.  Studies show people identify social media as their biggest time waster.  Binge watch your favorite Netfilx series while on the treadmill.  Binge listen to your favorite podcast or playlist while walking!

Be Strong

11/6/2018

If you're like most people, when you think of exercise you think of fast-paced aerobic routines. Cardio workouts are important. But if that’s the only type of exercise you do, then you could be missing out on the big benefits of strength and power training. These exercises help improve your fitness level in ways that aerobics just can’t deliver. What’s more, strengthening your muscles helps slow bone loss, improves balance, and can help control conditions such as back pain, heart disease, arthritis, type 2 diabetes, and many more.  Strength and power training includes repetition with light weights.

At Work Clinics

11/1/2018

One-third of large US employers (those with 5,000+ employees) currently offer their own primary care clinic on or near their worksite in order to clamp down on employee healthcare spending, reduce absenteeism, and increase productivity, according to a new Mercer report. An additional 11% plan to develop an employee medical clinic in 2019 — bringing the total to 44%, up from 24% in 2012.
